I never thought that the topic of pregnancy planning after bariatric surgery would be so relevant. But, as obesity becomes a serious pandemic, many young women agree to such an operation.
I personally know several of these women. When in such cases it is possible to plan pregnancy?

❗️Medscape Medical News published data on this subject thanks to the materials presented at the European Congress on Obesity (ECO) 2022.

Bariatric surgery involves rapid weight loss, which can trigger improved fertility. Dr. Anna Carreira and colleagues from Portugal conducted the study. Currently, doctors generally advise women to wait at least 1 year before planning of pregnancy.

Researchers advise women who have had bariatric surgery to wait at least 2 years before trying to conceive to reduce the risk of a small-for-gestational-age baby. They found that babies conceived less than 2 years after surgery are 15-times more likely to be small for gestational age as those conceived later.

There was no difference in findings according to surgery type.

Also, women need to discuss need with their doctors (family physicians, gynecologists) the question about possibility of their nutrient deficiencies at least 6 months prior to conception.
