Paracetamol/acetaminophen has been considered one of the safest pain relievers and antipyretics, and the most studied in pregnancy.

About 50% of pregnant women have taken paracetamol at least once, in the US up to 65% of pregnant women take this drug. Acetaminophen is an ingredient in over 600 prescription and over-the-counter medications.

❗️However, 13 American and European experts, together with several international organizations, published a Consensus warning that paracetamol should be taken by pregnant women strictly according to indications, in the lowest possible dose and for the shortest possible period.

‼️Taking paracetamol can lead to malformations of the nervous, reproductive, and genital systems in boys and girls.

❓When is paracetamol indicated in a pregnant woman?
When she has a fever and it needs to be brought down quickly, as the fever can lead to abortion, damage of the embryo and some of its organs, especially the heart.

The Consensus believes that all doctors dealing with pregnant women, without exception, have a duty to study the available information on this topic and review their practice, as well as educate patients not to abuse this medicine.

The conditions for taking aspirin, and especially the dosage, are also revised. There will be more post about this.
